Dr Julia Lockett
I studied Medicine at UWA, finishing with Honours in 2008, having had my first child in my 5th year! Following this I enjoyed working as a junior doctor across Royal Perth and Princess Margaret Hospitals, then commencing GP training in 2012 with a placement in Occupational Health. After taking time off to have another lovely baby, I commenced work in General Practice in 2014.
It has been a wonderful and rich experience! We all navigate joy, suffering, health and illness throughout our lives, and I continue to find inspiration in the connections and wisdom I gain from my patients, and value the opportunity to care for the very young to the very old.
It is a very humbling experience to meet families through pregnancy and early childhood, support adolescents through periods of transition and growth, and care for adults from all walks of life.
I believe in listening and taking time to identify problems and address my patients’ physical and emotional needs, explore preventative health care and address the underlying causes of disease. As such I enjoy working with people when they are well and unwell, and treating a very broad range of patients and conditions. Mental health, chronic diseases including cancer, pain, diabetes, kidney disease, respiratory and vascular disease, addiction, obesity, diseases of aging to name a few.
Medicine is always progressing and it is exciting to see this manifest in improvements in treatment and care we can offer to our patients. I really enjoy continuing to learn, and working collaboratively with specialist colleagues to provide best practice Medicine.
Outside of work I value time with my kids and loved ones while we do the school/activity juggle, debate/ navel gaze, listen to music or hopefully get to the bush or sea.
I look forward to working with the patients and staff at GPs on Bayview .
